Day 132 (6p11.1-6q12): chromosome 6 centromere; eyes shut

Day 132 is a gene desert with only 7 protein-coding genes near the centromere (browser view) including EYS (eyes shut homolog, Drosophila.)

EYS was first discovered in fly (where it was initially called spam, for “spacemaker”, based on changes in the retina when it is mutated.) In humans, mutations cause retinitis pigmentosa.
