Day 185 (8p21.2-8p12): the fossil of a gene that used to make vitamin C

Day 185 has 47 protein-coding genes (browser view) and a very important pseudogene: GULOP.

The GULO pseudogene is a gene that used to give us the ability to synthesize Vitamin C. The broken, nonfunctional vestige of the gene remains in our genome and is a beautiful demonstration of evolution.
