Day 232 (10p14-10p13): Artemis, helping shuffle immune genes

Day 232 has 36 protein-coding genes (browser view) including DCLRE1C (DNA cross-link repair 1C), also known as Artemis.

The normal process of shuffling immune genes, VDJ recombination, relies on Artemis, which was discovered in 2001. Mutations in this gene cause severe combined immune deficiency (also known as bubble boy disease).
