Day 24 (1q31.3-1q32.1): The gene for troponin T, a heart attack sentinel

Day 24 has 90 protein-coding genes, including TNNT2 which encodes the cardiac muscle troponin T protein. While both heart and skeletal muscle have troponin, cardiac troponin T is a form that is only expressed in the heart. When heart cells die, their troponin can be detected in the blood. Testing blood for troponin T is a very sensitive and specific test for heart attack.

TNNT2 is conserved across bony vertebrates, meaning it is at least 420 million years old.
