Day 356 (22q11.1-22q11.23): the Philadelphia chromosome breakpoint

Day 356 has 123 protein-coding genes (browser view) including BCR (breakpoint control region).

BCR is well known because it becomes pasted onto Chromosome 9 in the classic leukemia mutation, the Philadelphia Chromosome. When Chromosome 9 and 22 switch at this place, BCR becomes fused to the gene ABL, making cells divide uncontrollably. The name Philadelphia comes from the discovery of this translocation by researchers at UPenn and the ICR in Philadelphia.
