Day 89 (4q13.1-4q13.2): TMPRS11F, a mystery gene

Day 89 has only 19 protein-coding genes (browser view), including TMPRS11F.

Like many genes, TMPRS11F has been barely studied. Its name “transmembrane protease, serine 11F” comes from the fact that it looks like a transmembrane protein, and part of the protein looks like it has serine protease activity.

It is conserved as far away as rat, suggesting it is about 100 million years old.
